- Restrictions are being eased in New South Wales, allowing for more dancing
- From Monday, nightclubs can reopen with 50 people allowed on dance floor
- Stand-up drinking will be allowed once again, but only in outdoor settings
- Maximum capacity caps will be removed, replaced by two sqm restrictions
Major changes to New South Wales‘ social distancing restrictions have been announced, allowing for a far more festive Christmas season.
From Monday, nightclubs can reopen with up to 50 people allowed on the dance floor at any one time, Premier Gladys Berejiklian said.
Stand-up drinking will be allowed once again, but only in outdoor settings.
Maximum capacity caps will be removed for at hospitality venues, places of worship and retail stores.
The restriction, which will be replaced by the two-square metre rule, will apply to weddings, funerals and corporate events.
Limits on the number of people allowed to gather outside will also be eased, with up to 100 people allowed in an outdoor setting – up from 50.
For outdoor organised events, up to 3,000 people can gather but the two-square metre rule must apply.
‘From Monday, life will be very different in NSW,’ Ms Berejiklian said.
‘We are grateful to the people in NSW for their patience and understanding over what has been an incredibly difficult year has been,’ Ms Berejiklian said.
‘The rolling back of restrictions across the state is only possible because of the excellent work of the community who have followed social distancing guidelines and continued to come forward for testing.’
