AEye, Inc., a company specializing in high-performance lidar, has initiated field deployments of OPTIS™, an integrated sensing system designed to provide real-time, 3D environmental perception for a range of industries. The new platform aims to bridge the gap between data collection and autonomous action in complex settings.
Built upon AEye’s long-range Apollo lidar sensor, which can detect objects up to one kilometer away, OPTIS combines advanced computing with physical AI to create a complete autonomous system. It is designed to enhance existing infrastructure and support the development of intelligent, connected systems for applications in security, logistics, and transportation. The system’s software-defined architecture allows for faster updates and easier integration, reducing the cost and complexity associated with traditional hardware upgrades.
AEye is collaborating with a select group of partners to open the OPTIS platform to third-party developers, enabling the integration of diverse and innovative AI solutions. This open approach is expected to expand the system’s capabilities and accelerate the delivery of tailored solutions for customers.
“OPTIS™ enables AEye and our partners to deliver solutions that address critical challenges, whether it’s navigating autonomous vehicles, ensuring traffic safety, or identifying objects on the tracks to enhance rail safety,” said Matt Fisch, CEO of AEye. He noted that with an estimated addressable market of over $50 billion, the platform is poised to unlock high-value applications. Fisch confirmed that deployments are already underway for airport safety, perimeter monitoring, and transportation logistics.
Powered by NVIDIA’s Jetson Orin platform, OPTIS is positioned as a high-performance solution for scenarios where speed and precision are critical. “It builds on the strengths of Apollo to deliver something more powerful: a system that can be tailored to customer needs without requiring costly or time-intensive hardware changes,” Fisch added. “This gives AEye, and our customers, a meaningful edge.”
The company plans to officially launch and demonstrate OPTIS™ at the ITS World Congress in Atlanta, scheduled for August 24-28, 2025.
