Rosie O’Donnell revealed that her daughter holds former President Donald Trump personally responsible for their family’s relocation to Ireland and for what she perceives as his damaging impact on the United States.
During an appearance on “The Jim Acosta Show,” O’Donnell recounted her daughter’s frustration, quoting her as saying, “Damn him. Damn Trump… He made us move for our own safety… and now he’s destroying the country.” O’Donnell acknowledged the difficulty of protecting her child from the political climate while recognizing her awareness of the situation.
The comedian also expressed a desire to step back from the public conflict. “I did 22 years,” she said. “I don’t really need to do any more. And I don’t want my kid to be so affected by it.”
In response to O’Donnell’s latest comments, White House spokeswoman Abigail Jackson told Fox News Digital, “Rosie O’Donnell clearly suffers from a severe case of Trump Derangement Syndrome and it’s better for the entire country that she decided to move away.”
O’Donnell moved to Ireland in January, five days before Trump’s 2025 inauguration. She has referred to the move as a “self-imposed political exile” and began pursuing Irish citizenship last October, citing her grandparents’ heritage. “It will be good to have my Irish citizenship,” she told the Daily Telegraph, “especially since Trump keeps threatening to take away mine.”
The feud escalated again in July when Trump posted on Truth Social that he was giving “serious consideration to taking away her Citizenship,” calling her a “Threat to Humanity.” O’Donnell responded that Trump “has always hated the fact that I see him for who he is.”
As O’Donnell was born in New York, her citizenship is protected by the 14th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, which prevents a president from revoking the citizenship of a natural-born citizen.
The public animosity between O’Donnell and Trump dates back nearly two decades to 2006, when she criticized him during her time as a co-host on “The View.”
