For years, Mexicans have demonstrated talent for business and innovative ideas, no matter where they are, an example of this are those who reside in the United States (EU), because currently 1.2 million people who live in that country are entrepreneurs, of which, 49% are womenwho are leading successful businesses in various sectors, reveals Global Business International (GBI).
“Female entrepreneurship in the US was triggered by the pandemic, women have had favorable growth and currently, 49% of entrepreneurships, that is, 600,000 Mexicans, approximatelyThey are successful business entrepreneurs with a tendency to continue growing,” Dayana Abreu, CEO and founder of GBI, told El Economista.
She explained that unlike five years ago, today there is an accelerated growth of women entrepreneurs, especially during the pandemic, since millions of people decided to start their own businesses to give a better quality of life for their families and by the desire to have something of their own.
“The businesses that were generated in a pandemic, today are much more productive than those that were previously. The woman who had previously thought of developing a business in a pandemic said: ‘now is the time’. The main reason for doing so is to protect the interests of her children, if they have any, and to provide them with better life opportunities.”
The sectors in which they venture the most are agri-food, beauty and aesthetics, fashion and constructionas well as technology and lighting systems.
Abreu explained that a phenomenon that has been seen to be unusual is the interest in the buildingusually led by men, but where more and more women are positioning themselves.
An example of this are some entrepreneurs who have developed a housing complex with good results, something “that was not common but it is very satisfying to see it.” Also, women in general are leading the technology part.
“Many work as a team with their husbands, children, that is, it has become a life project.”
How do they start?
Abreu explained that at the Latin American level, women have a strong presence, since 6.4 million Latinas start businesses in the US with a favorable impact in the region because they generate 9.2 million jobs.
In addition to the impact they produce in the country, Latina women’s businesses generate 97,000 million dollars in income and their businesses are the ones that have grown the most, 137 percent. Entrepreneurial Mexicans exceed their presence compared to other nationalities such as Asians and Afro-Americans, also with a significant influx in the country.
When analyzing how Mexican women are undertaking, it is observed that they prefer to have their own brands such as restaurants or beauty salons.
“For example, we have clients who developed their line of facial care, for hair, among others, and are joining large chains.”
The options
Víctor Parra, vice president of GBI, highlighted that in addition to its own businesses, it is also starting with franchises and in business opportunities investing, among others. The states where they undertake the most are Florida, Texas y California.
Data from Master Franchises indicate that the presence of franchises from Mexico has also emerged during the pandemic with growth prospects, with Texas being the state where there is the most interest in Mexican brands such as Taco Inn, Sixties Burger y Arrachera House.
If this rate of female entrepreneurship continues, it is estimated that by the year 2060, Latinas would represent almost a third of the female population and would employ more than 500,000 people.
“Women are taking a more important and secure role in business, we must continue promoting female entrepreneurship,” Parra concluded.
