The former Barcelona club president, Josep Maria Bartomeu, announced his resignation from his post as president of the Catalan club, on Tuesday, October 27, 2020, after the success of the Barcelona Board of Directors campaign and the departure of Bartomeu.
The impeachment campaign began at the end of last season, after Barcelona’s historic loss to Bayern Munich (2-8) in the Champions League quarter-finals.
Businessman Jordi Fari submitted a “withdrawal of confidence” request from Bartomeu and his management on August 26, after the Argentine star Lionel Messi announced, via a fax, that he wanted to leave the club and activate the clause that allows him to unilaterally cancel his contract with Barcelona. The Catalan team confirmed that the term of validity of the item has expired, so Messi is forced to continue, preferring not to enter the courts, in early September.
