The head of the National Water Commission (Conagua), Germán Martínez Santoyo, explained that after making projections for the next 24 months of supply, it was determined that the conditions established by the 1996 agreement between the two states exist, currently the El Cuchillo has a storage of 756 million cubic meters and Marte R. Gómez stores 388,519 million cubic meters.

The agreement signed by the governors of both states in 1996 specifies that each 1st. November of each year, if the Marte R. Gómez dam has less than 700 million cubic meters and El Cuchillo has more than 315 million cubic meters, it will send the surplus.
