(Trends Wide) — At least 20 people were injured and one died in a shooting that occurred on Sunday night at a Juneteenth celebration. [Día de la Emancipación] in Willowbrook, Illinois, according to police.
Some of the injured were taken to hospitals by ambulance and others arrived on foot, DuPage County Sheriff’s Deputy Eric Swanson told reporters on Sunday.
Ten patients were taken to four local hospitals with injuries ranging from abrasions to gunshot wounds, two of whom were in critical condition, fire protection district battalion chief Joe Ostrander said.
At least 12 ambulances went to the scene, he added.
Witnesses say the shooting took place around 12:30 am local time in a parking lot in Willowbrook, about 33 kilometers west of Chicago.
The motive for the shooting is unclear and it is still an ongoing investigation, Swanson said.
