At the community level, 68.3% of Mexican women aged 15 and over have told someone about the experiences of violence they have experienced throughout their lives, and of the women who experienced physical and/or sexual violence in the community couple, 13.1% (national average) filed a complaint or complaint with some authority, reveals the National Survey on the Dynamics of Household Relationships (ENDIREH) 2021.
Conducted by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi), the survey made public regarding the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, which will be commemorated tomorrow, states that after the community, family and work environment it is where more Mexican women (65.4 and 65.1 %, respectively) told someone about their experience of violence.
Regarding the presentation of complaints or complaints before any authority, 7.8, 7.1, 6.5 and 4.3% of the women who experienced physical and/or sexual violence in the school, family, work and community settings, respectively, did so, on average. , at the national level.
In total, 21 million women in the community who experienced physical or sexual violence did not seek help, attention or did not report it to any institution or authority, while in the school, partner, work and family spheres they did not 12, 7 , 6 and two million, respectively.
Of the total number of women who were physically or sexually abused, 43.1% did not report or seek help at school, considering that “it was something unimportant that did not affect them.”
For the same reason, 42.4, 31.6, 31.4 and 27.7% of the women who suffered the same type of aggression did not do so, respectively, in the community, work, family and partner spheres.
In the family environment, 22.8% did not go to any institution or authority for “fear of the consequences or threats”; 22.2% in the areas of couples and work abstained for the same reason.
The analysis of the differences between women of different age groups indicates that the youngest women, from 15 to 24 years old, experienced a higher prevalence of violence (58.3%) and that sexual violence was the most frequent (42.0%).
