Opposition regrets CNDH statements about changes to INE

Considering that the National Human Rights Commission (CNDH) is taken over by the federal government, the national leader of the PAN, Marko Cortés, demanded that President Andrés Manuel López Obrador “take the hands of the autonomous organizations that had worked to preserve the rights of Mexicans and not the interests of the regime in power and its party”

After the CNDH attacked the INE and spoke out for its “transformation” as proposed by the president, the PAN leader considered the Human Rights organization’s recommendation to be illegal.

Marko Cortés Mendoza argued that the head of the CNDH, Rosario Piedra Ibarra, was “imposed” as president of the CNDH because she did not achieve the required qualified majority vote in the Senate of the Republic and because she concealed that she was a member of Morena, “so that his appointment was so illegal as this recommendation that completely obeys the whims and orders from the government, despite the fact that by law the Commission should be a completely autonomous body, precisely so that it fulfills its task of guaranteeing human rights.”

From the Senate of the Republic, Clemente Castañeda rejected the position of the CNDH and likewise required the Political Coordination Board to summon the head of the commission to appear, to discuss this and other matters.

The coordinator of the Citizen Movement Bench estimated that the “propagandistic” action distorts the nature and powers of the CNDH, as well as the very object of General Recommendation 46/2022 on the “Dirty War.”

For his part, the national leader of the PRD, Jesús Zambrano, said that it is the duty of every citizen to defend the INE from the government and Morena’s attempt to achieve a reform that allows them to have control of the elections.

“That is why the INE must be defended, because otherwise what is going to be done is to return to the control of the elections by the government of the Republic as it was done before. The rupture of democracy is going to prevent any possibility of development in our country; Let’s all defend the INE”, he stressed. (With editorial information)
