Karl-Anthony Towns has been on the radar of various franchises for a while. Not because the center has given signs of wanting to leave, in fact in his statements he has done rather the opposite, but because of the belief that Minnesota’s continued inability to create a competitive team around him will end up generating that desire. And apparently, in several offices they have thought that the recent dismissal of Gersson Rosas could have sparked the spark.
The decision was so sudden and unexpected that it caught everyone by surprise, including Towns himself, who reacted on social networks with a simple but well-read message: “WTF” (“What the hell?”). The pivot was apparently surprised by the news, which does not seem typical of an organization that works as well as it should, but this surprise has not awakened a desire to exit or doubts about it.
Also, this does not seem like the most propitious time to look to leave the team, as this could be an interesting year in Minnesota. Anthony Edwards is coming off a season of rookie more than exciting, and if injuries respect Towns and D’Angelo Russell they could be a team with things to say. It’s not like they have any serious options to dream big, but it would be weird when they least wanted to leave without giving the team a chance to show their true level.
And being a little more prosaic, the truth is that by now Karl must be cured of scares. As Krawczynski himself affirms, contrary to what would happen with other superstars, the center would surely receive a generalized understanding if he made public his desire to go out because of the way things have gone in his franchise. After years of questionable decisions, continuous changes in offices and benches, dramas like Jimmy Butler’s, and very little sporting success, one more dismissal is not going to be the last straw. But yes, the glass continues to fill.
