A low-flying owl has caused a car crash after it swooped into a van’s window and smashed into the driver’s head.
The delivery driver was travelling west on John Street at Belmont North, in New South Wales‘ Lake Macquarie district, about 10.30pm on Saturday when the bird flew into his vehicle.
The 21-year-old man, from Birmingham Gardens, was struck in the head and became stunned by the impact, causing him to collide with a parked car.

Nearby residents rushed to the driver’s aid and took photos of the feathered culprit sitting on the dashboard
Fearing a second attack, the man jumped out of his van and was assisted by nearby residents who snapped photos of the feathered culprit perched by the steering wheel.
The man did not sustain any injuries but both vehicles were significantly damaged.
Police are now on the hunt for the winged offender after it fled the scene and failed to render assistance.
‘If you recognise the owl, please contact your nearest police station,’ officers said in a comical statement on the Lake Macquarie Police District Facebook page.
‘Thankfully there was photographic evidence otherwise we never would have believed the story.’
