Pakistan announced that it had begun taking legal measures with the aim of concluding an agreement on extradition with Britain that would open the way for the extradition of former Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to his country.
In an interview with the Associated Press, on Friday, Pakistani Information Minister Shibley Faraz stressed that Britain “bears responsibility for not allowing convicted criminals such as Sharif to remain in its territory,” adding that the Pakistani authorities “were, are and will continue to be,” trying to retrieve Sharif, who was convicted on charges. Corruption in his country.
And earlier this month, the Supreme Court of Pakistan issued a ruling stating that Sharif, 70, who lives in London, is considered a fugitive from justice for refusing to return to his country to face new charges of corruption.
The Supreme Court decided to remove Sharif from his post in 2017 on charges of exceeding his powers, and in 2018 he was sentenced to seven years in prison for corruption and money laundering.
In 2019, the Pakistani authorities agreed to release the former prime minister, who was convicted on bail due to his deteriorating health, and allowed him to leave the country to receive health care.
