A government health official in Pakistan said today, Saturday, that the government has obtained 17 million doses of the “AstraZeneca” vaccine against Covid-19 as part of “Kovacs” initiative to distribute the vaccine to poor countries.
Faisal Sultan, Assistant to the Prime Minister for Health Services, added on “Twitter” that about 6 million doses will arrive in the first quarter of 2021 and the rest by the middle of the year.
And local Pakistani media reported, quoting a responsible source, that the Pakistani government had allowed emergency use of the Russian “Sputnik V” vaccine and granted approval to a local pharmaceutical company to import and distribute this vaccine.
According to the newspaper “DAWN”, the Pakistani official indicated that the Russian vaccine is the third drug approved for use in the country.
The official also confirmed that the local pharmaceutical company AGP will be the sole importer and distributor of the Russian vaccine.
Recently, the frequency of countries’ recognition of the first Russian vaccine has increased in various continents of the world.
The effectiveness of “Sputnik V”, which is vaccinated in two doses, reaches 91.4% according to clinical test results, with 100% protection against the risk of serious cases of infection.
