Panera Bread is venturing into a new food category with three flatbread pizza items added to its menu.
The restaurant announced Wednesday it would bring on cheese, margherita, and chipotle chicken and bacon options starting at $7.99.
“At Panera, baking is at the core of who we are and what we’re known for – we knew that we had all the elements to bring our delicious, hearty flatbreads to life,” said Claes Petersson, Panera’s chief food and innovation officer, in a statement. “With the launch of flatbread pizza, we are looking to redefine the expectation of pizza and carve out a niche for Panera in the pizza category.”

Panera Bread, which is known for its sandwiches and soups, said it has “doubled” its delivery business during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The 30-year-old company started as quick-service restaurant with breakfast and lunch menus and just recently began its foray into dinner options.
“Our flatbread pizzas encompass the best of what Panera has to offer: Clean, delicious ingredients from our pantry on top of oven-baked flatbread that is expertly crafted for our guests,” added Petersson.
