LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) – JCPS students returned to the classroom Monday with a two-hour delayed start due to concerns of snowy sidewalks and side streets.
Parents dropping off children at Shelby Elementary School had mixed opinions on the return to school, like Amy Hamby who drops off her third-grade daughter.
“In this type of weather, I don’t think they should have had school today. This is so wrong,” she said.
Hamby said her daughter was also not looking forward to school returning.
“She is terrified for the day,” Hamby said. “We had a slip on our way out the door.”
Hamby said she had a less-than-ideal time getting to school.
“The side streets are horrible. This is bad. I got detoured on my way here. I live five minutes from here,” she said.
On the flip side, Roger Parrott who takes his twin grandchildren to the same school had a different take.
“It don’t look like it’s going to get any better, so they gotta go back some time,” Parrott said. “Getting off the side streets was rough, but all the main streets were good. It went better than I thought it would.”
Both said the two-hour delay didn’t disrupt their daily schedules.
As for busses, JCPS said they were about 30 minutes slower than normal Monday.
JCPS announced Monday afternoon that students would be returning to normal class schedules on Tuesday.
