Pau Gasol has called a press conference for next Tuesday, October 5, where he will announce his sporting future. Are we before the announcement of his imminent withdrawal? Because of how the summer has developed, we believe that yes, the natural center of Sant Boi will hang up his boots for good after wearing the colors of FC Barcelona for two stages, and of the Memphis Grizzlies, Los Angeles Lakers, Chicago Bulls, San Antonio Spurs and Milwaukee Bucks in the NBA.
The oldest of the Gasol saga played his last official match against the United States team at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games where they would lose by a clear 81-95 in a magnificent second half by Kevin Durant. Pau reaped 3 rebounds in just under 6 minutes on the floor.
Behind he leaves an excellent career where he has triumphed as a Blaugrana and with gold and purple along with the myth of Kobe Bryant. Rookie of the Year 2002 and selected in the Best Quintet of Rookies; six times selected to contest the All-Star Game; twice included in the Second Best NBA Quintet and another two in the Best Third Quintet; two-time champion ring winner with the Lakers in 2009 and 2010 have been his countless accolades.
And here his list of successes does not conclude, since with Spain he has added two silver and an Olympic bronze; a world championship in Japan 2006; and three golds, two silvers and two bronzes in Europeans, among many others.
In his more than 1,200 regular season games, he has averaged 17.1 points, 9.2 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 1.6 blocks in 33.5 minutes on the floor.
