The President of the Republic, Pedro Castillo, undertook to fulfill, from the Government, all the necessary obligations for Peru to become a full member of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).
“The relationship between Peru and the OECD is based on a relationship that benefits us mutually. Peru is a partner capable of contributing to the strengthening of the multilateral system to address global challenges. I express the commitment of the Peruvian Government to honor the obligations linked to the accession process leading to the incorporation of our country into the OECD,” said the president.
Pedro Castillo, in his speech during the ceremony in which he signed the letter by which Peru accepts the invitation to start the process of accession to the OECD, described this stage as a milestone and a great opportunity for the country.
“Peru’s aspiration to join the OECD constitutes a permanent State policy that is based on the defense of democracy, the protection of individual liberties, human rights, an open, inclusive and competitive economy, and the State of law”. The president also commented that there is a commitment to promote fiscal transparency, the fight against corruption and the conservation of the environment.
Countries can take four years to complete their OECD accession process, according to the deputy director of the OECD Center for Tax Policy and Administration, Grace Pérez-Navarro. “(The invitation to Peru) is a very important decision of the OECD Council,” he said.
