Pelicans star Zion Williamson returns to on-court activities as he continues his rehab from the hamstring injury he suffered in January and he’ll be reevaluated in two weeks
New Orleans Pelicans star Zion Williamson has been cleared to resume on-court activities and will have his hamstring reevaluated in two weeks.
A reevaluation period from today has Williamson set to be looked at by doctors on April 5, after the team plays another three games.
The time frame also leaves open the possibility for the 22-year-old to return during the regular season.
‘I can’t confirm that he will be back or not, but we’ll see,’ Pelicans head coach Willie Green said Wednesday.
‘It’s extremely positive for him and our team.’
Zion Williamson is clear for on-court activities but is out for at least another two weeks
Williamson has been sitting out with a strained right hamstring he suffered in early January
‘It’s been another one of those years that he starts off well, makes an All-Star Game, and it’s been difficult navigating injuries. It’s part of the game, but it’s definitely been tough.
‘So I’m sure he’s relieved to start to feel normal again, being on the floor.’
Williamson originally hurt his hamstring on January 2 but reinjured it just before the All-Star break as he was initially prepping for his return.
Before being injured this season, Williamson was having a highly-productive season averaging 26.0 points on 60.8 percent shooting, 7.0 rebounds and 4.6 assists through 29 contests.
New Orleans is currently 35-37 and are tied with the Los Angeles Lakers for 11th place in the NBA Western Conference standings.
They are however only 1.5 games out of the sixth-place spot and ensuring they avoid the play-in tournament.
Getting Williamson back before the end of the season would certainly boost the team’s postseason chances.
New Orleans was 23-14 when Williamson was injured and since he has been out the team has gone 12-23 which puts them in the bottom five of winning percentage since then.
Despite missing an extended period of time Williamson was still voted an All-Star starter
