Pemex is in talks with the Government about new support for the payment of debt amortizations in the first quarter of 2023, said the general director of the Mexican state oil company, octavio romero.
The government had assumed the payment of Pemex’s debt amortizations since last year with the argument of leaving resources to the company for investments; however, it discontinued that practice after the first quarter of 2022amid high crude oil prices.
“We are in talks with (the Ministry of) Finance, above all, for the first quarter of next year, where we have strong amortizations,” Romero said in a meeting with journalists on Tuesday afternoon.
“We have paid it, it is not easy. Even though the price (of crude oil) has been very good, in previous months there came a point” where it was financially difficult, he explained when asked about the company’s debt.
Pemex’s Finance Director, Carlos Cortezspecified that the amortizations for the first quarter add up to about 4,000 million dollars.
The oil company has debt repayments of 7.5 billion dollars in 2023 and 8.9 billion dollars in 2024, according to Moody’s.
