The Suns have no brakes. The Arizona organization accounted for San Antonio by 111-115 last night to achieve its 13th consecutive victory of the course or, in other words, reach the third best winning streak in its history.
Phoenix is working great. They have maintained the block that led them to the last Finals and for now they appear as a well-oiled machine that almost nobody manages to stop. Last night they redistributed the weight of the game with up to six players in double scoring figures (three starters and three from the bench).
The leading scorer was Devin Booker with 23 points while DeAndre Ayton had a double-double of 21 points and 14 rebounds. Already from the second unit Cameron Payne would contribute 20 points. The substitute point guard is giving a great performance and is aware of their streak, which brings them closer to the organization’s record: 17 consecutive victories in the 2006-07 campaign. Despite this, Payne keeps his head from game to game.
“I don’t really think about it, for me it’s just a number. Honestly, after winning today for me it is just another 1-0, “he stands out regarding the team’s mentality, which has not changed after three weeks unbeaten.
Although the final result was tight, the Suns’ victory was not in jeopardy. Those of Arizona arrived at the last four minutes winning by up to 15 points and the Spurs only approached in the final moments without options to turn the scoreboard. Dejounte Murray, who posted a triple-double of 18 points, 11 assists and 10 rebounds, laments for having conceded the fifth consecutive loss.
“I mean it with all that I am as a basketball player. I am a winner, I have been a winner and I want to win ”, comments the point guard of those of Texas subtracting important to the seventh triple-double of his career.
Also set a good performance in San Antonio Derrick White with 19 points and Devin Vassell, second year player, who from the bench contributed 17 with 3 of 6 from the three-point line.
