The Washington Wizards have agreed to trade multi-time All-Star guard Bradely Beal to the Phoenix Suns, according to multiple reports.
In return the Wizards are set to receive veteran point guard Chris Paul, Landry Shamet, and multiple second round draft picks.
Trade talks were said to have gotten serious in the last several days between the Wizards and the Suns, as well as the Miami Heat.
Beal’s agent Mark Bartelstein confirmed the trade via ESPN.
‘This was an extremely complicated process with so many different hurdles to get through and Ted Leonsis and Michael Winger were unbelievable partners in making this happen,’ said Bartelstein.
All-Star point guard Bradely Beal is being traded to the Phoenix Suns in a blockbuster deal
All-NBA point guard Chris Paul will headline the trade package received by the Wizards
‘From the day that Ted drafted Brad he has been by our side along with [former general managers] Ernie Grunfeld and Tommy Sheppard. They’ve always had Brad’s back in every way and now we have experienced the exact same thing with Ted and Michael Winger. We are extremely grateful.’
Beal lifted the no-trade clause in his contract in order to team up with fellow Devin Booker and Kevin Durant, along with center Deandre Ayton.
His no-trade clause will now carry over and remain in effect throughout his tenure in Phoenix.
The soon-to-be 30-year-old just completed the first season of a five-year $251 million contract, which will severely affect the Suns ability to add depth throughout the rest of the summer.
Last season he averaged 23.2 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 5.4 assists per game.
Now that Beal’s future is resolved more attention will now be placed on the futures of several other stars involved in rumors this offseason, Paul being one of the most pertinent.
Following news that he was set to depart the Suns, the multi-time All-NBA guard Paul had been linked to a number of teams with one of the most notable being the LA Lakers.
Washington has been waiting to see if starter Kyle Kuzma and Kristaps Porzingis decide to opt for free agency or remain on the roster for the final year of their contracts and may be set for a full blown rebuild if the duo decides to leave.
Marc Stein reported that Paul made almost an extra $10 million in guaranteed as a result of the deal, and may be waived or bought out by Washington.
If he does in fact reach free agency the Suns will not be eligible to re-sign him.
As a result of missing out on Beal the Heat are set to pivot their full attention to Portland Trail Blazers superstar Damian Lillard, under the genuine belief that he may attempt to force a trade, according to Bleacher Report and TNT.
Along with adding Beal, the Suns are hiring South Bay Lakers head coach Miles Simon and John Lucas III as members of Frank Vogels coaching staff.
