Phone formatting disappears information

Buenos Aires. The Argentine Justice could lose a key piece of evidence of the assassination attempt suffered by Vice President Cristina Fernández.

The cell phone carried by the one who pointed a gun at the Argentine, Fernando Andrés Sabag Montiel, was formatted in one of the attempts by the Argentine Federal Police (PFA) to extract information.

The newspaper La Nación revealed yesterday that the incident, which has investigators on edge, would have occurred while a division of the police was trying to unlock the Samsung cell phone in court using the UFED software.

La Nación asked the Airport Security Police about what happened, and reported having a more modern software to unlock cell phones to access the information. The phone remained locked in a safe until it was turned over to the PSA.

What the police were able to extract correctly was the SIM card, which has phone contacts and images, a source revealed to the Argentine newspaper.

The event occurs in the midst of enormous political polarization. On Saturday, the Argentine Chamber of Deputies held a tense special session to try to send a signal of political unity and reject the attack suffered two days ago by Vice President Cristina Kirchner, an attack from which she emerged unscathed but which keeps the country in shock.

Most of the opposition parliamentarians walked out of the session.

The deputies of the Pro party (Republican Proposal, of former president Mauricio Macri, the main one of the center-right opposition) then left the session without speaking.

“We do not want this very serious event (the assassination attempt) to be used with the aim of generating more division, assigning culprits and much less becoming a platform to attack the political opposition, the judiciary and the media,” they asserted.
