Piano prodigy Brigitte Xie, 3, is set to perform at Carnegie Hall in New York City after she became the youngest person to win the Elite National Music Competition.
Brigitte, from Ridgefield, Connecticut, took up the piano amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
She initially started taking virtual lessons with award-winning piano teacher Felicia Feng Zhang before being brought to her Greenwich, Connecticut studio for in-person sessions.

In six months, the three-year-old progressed more on the piano than some people do over the course of years, with a knack for the instrument and the ability to learn sheet music quickly.
Her music teacher quickly noticed her ‘exceptional’ talent and encouraged her to practice more.
‘I said, “Brigitte, do you like a challenge? Would you like to be on stage?”‘ Zhang said.
Brigitte won the prestigious Elite International Music Competition, landing a performance slot at Carnegie Hall in November.
Speaking to the New York Post, her father, Tao Xie, explained how his daughter developed her love for the piano during lockdown

Speaking to the New York Post, her father Tao Xie explained how his developed her love for the piano during lockdown.
‘We tried to keep her entertained. She started playing a little bit while she was stuck at home during the pandemic,’ he said.
‘I was surprised at how quickly she got good. I thought it was amazing.’
According to Xie, the entire family are huge music fans and are always playing a wide variety of genres.
Her mother, Nicole Sun, who also plays the piano. said she was ‘deeply moved’ the first time she heard her daughter play.
