Sony’s DualSense Edge wireless controller for the PlayStation 5 is set to launch on January 26, 2023, and preorders are now available for $200 at the PlayStation Direct store.
DualSense Edge is Sony’s response to the popular Xbox Elite controller, which is one of this year’s bestselling gaming peripherals. Other premium controllers for the PlayStation 5 include the $220 Scuf Reflex Pro, and the upcoming Victrix Pro BFG, which is set to release on December 5 for $180.
What is the DualSense Edge?
The DualSense Edge is Sony’s new premium PS5 controller geared toward gaming enthusiasts and competitive players. The gamepad adds two additional buttons to the rear of the controller and allows players to swap out components like the analog sticks. The package includes extra parts, a braided USB-C cable for charging, and a carrying case to keep everything secure.
DualSense Edge will also let players adjust the sensitivity of the analog sticks and customize the controller layout, allowing multiple button configurations to be saved directly to the controller. Controllers with extra customizable buttons are especially popular among gamers who want to gain a competitive advantage, as they let players use more fingers and remap buttons that are sometimes hard to trigger, like L3 and R3.
DualSense Edge will still carry all the unique features that separate PlayStation 5 controllers from their Xbox counterparts, like a built-in touchpad and microphone, adaptive triggers with adjustable sensitivity, and haptic feedback. It will also be compatible with Sony’s official DualSense charging station, which doubles as a dock.
How to preorder the DualSense Edge PS5 controller
So far, preorders for the DualSense Edge controller are only available from the PlayStation Direct store. The DualSense Edge costs $200 and it will be officially released on January 26, 2023. In order to preorder the controller through PlayStation Direct, you must create an account with the store.
Sony will also sell replacement analog sticks for the DualSense Edge starting January 26 for $20 — though we hope the original sticks included with the DualSense Edge are durable enough to last for a while without replacement.
The official PlayStation Blog says that other retailers will begin offering the DualSense Edge and replaceable analog sticks on February 23, 2023.
