Since May 2, thousands of people have crowded the forecourt of the United States Supreme Court building in Washington, DC. As in several other major cities in the country, demonstrators are gathering to defend the right to abortion, which seems to be strongly threatened since the publication by the site Politico of a draft judgment purely and simply annulling the historic Roe decision vs Wade. This judgment allows, since 1973, all women to have an abortion, regardless of the American state where they live.
Why does the Supreme Court of the United States wish to reconsider a historic decision in the feminist fight, which it itself had taken almost fifty years ago, then reaffirmed in 1992?
Gilles Paris was the correspondent of Monde in the United States, he is now a columnist for The World in French, the English version of our site. Wade.
