- Emergency services were called to the scene in Blackpool on Friday evening
A police chief has said a video showing a cop being struck in the face with a brick shows the ‘dangers that officers face every single day’.
Emergency services were called to the scene in Blackpool on Friday evening after an officer was smacked in the face while carrying out an investigation into a string of robberies in the area.
Two men have since been arrested after a video of the ordeal circulated on social media.
Dramatic footage shows a man holding a brick while being arrested by two officers, one of whom shouts ‘put the brick down’.
While being detained by the male officer from behind, the man violently whacks the cop in the forehead with the object before sprinting off, leaving the policeman holding his head in agony.

While the female officer runs after the man, the male cop is left lying on a car bonnet in pain before getting up and hobbling towards his police van.
Speaking of the ordeal, Assistant Chief Constable Karen Edwards, of Blackpool Police, said the incident reflects the struggles police officers face on a daily basis.
‘Whilst working hard to keep Lancashire’s communities safe, one of our officers has been assaulted resulting in a significant head injury,’ Ms Edwards said.
‘Assaulting police officers is completely unacceptable and again shows the dangers that officers face every single day.’
Blackpool Police said in a statement: ‘We’re aware of a video circulating on social media of one of our officers being assaulted in Blackpool, and we wanted to give you some background.
