IOWA CITY, Iowa – Police are investigating a shooting that occurred Friday afternoon near the University of Iowa campus.
Around 1:30 p.m., Iowa City Police responded to reports of gunfire near the intersection of East Burlington and South Governor Streets. Officers at the scene found physical evidence that a shooting had occurred.
Following the reports, the University of Iowa issued a Hawk Alert to its community. The alert stated a suspect was seen fleeing west from the area toward campus and urged students and staff to either avoid the area or shelter in place.
