Professor of International Conflicts, Muhammad Al-Sharqawi, said that the US response to the Russian demands regarding the Ukrainian crisis did not respond to these demands, the most important of which is ensuring that the “NATO” alliance does not expand to the east by including Ukraine and other countries.
Al-Sharqawi added – in his speech to an episode of “Beyond the News” program (29/2022), that Washington’s response included 3 options; The first is to maintain the diplomatic bridge between Moscow and the West, the second is to continue to threaten sanctions, and the third is military deterrence. The United States has not stopped sending military equipment to Kiev; As a hint of the possibility of resorting to this option.
He added that the crisis reached its climax after the diplomatic track was completed, and muscle flexing began, and all parties should reduce escalation and withdraw forces and military equipment on the firing line, but the White House and the Kremlin believe that more displays of force will lead to a solution, and this is a misconception, according to Al-Sharqawi.
Russian officials expressed reservations about the contents of the US written response to the security guarantees and demands presented by Moscow regarding the Ukrainian crisis. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that the content of that response establishes the beginning of talks on issues he described as secondary, apparently in comparison with the main Russian demand, which is not to expand the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) to the east.
On the other hand; Mahmoud al-Hamza, a researcher in Russia and Central Asia, said that Russia confirmed that it was not in a hurry to judge the American response regarding the guarantees provided to it, and that this response will be carefully studied, adding that Moscow is disturbed by the lack of America and NATO response to the issue of their expansion in eastern Ukraine.
He added that the American response discussed the ceasefire, and not deploying missile systems near the Russian borders, and this does not meet the demands of the Russians, but rather opens a door for negotiations between Russia and the West and allows more time, noting that Russia is working to issue resolutions recognizing the separatist republics of Lugansk and Donetsk in Ukraine.
He added that Russia would not only recognize the two republics; Rather, it will work to arm them significantly, in addition to the issuance of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s decision to grant Russian passports to thousands of people from separate republics, and to give them pension guarantees, and these orders can be interpreted as a Russian response to the American paper.
