An opinion poll conducted by “Abc News” network in cooperation with “The Washington Post” revealed that 56% of Americans support the efforts of Congress to prevent outgoing President Donald Trump from running for a second term.
According to the poll, 59% of respondents expected history to view Trump as a “below average” president, while 48% classified his term as “poor.” Moreover, 56% support the efforts of Congress to remove him from office and prevent him from assuming an elected office again.
The poll showed that 9 out of 10 Americans oppose the January 6 attack on the Capitol Building, and seven in 10 say Trump bears at least some responsibility for it.
Also, 54% said that Trump should be criminally charged with inciting riots because he encouraged his supporters to storm the Capitol, and more than 66% said he had acted irresponsibly in his statements and actions since the elections.
And 51% said that last week’s events in Washington left them less confident in the stability of democracy in the United States. However, only 20% are pessimistic about the future of the US system of government.
