Pope Francis met, today, Saturday, the supreme Shiite cleric, Ali al-Sistani, in the city of Najaf, at one of the most important stops of the pontiff’s historic visit to Iraq.
The Pope’s armored car stopped on Rasoul Street near the shrine of Imam Ali in the city of Najaf, then the Pope got off it and walked for tens of meters towards the home of the Supreme Shiite cleric Ali al-Sistani on a narrow road that could not be wide enough to enter one car.
The Pope was received by a group of Iraqis dressed in traditional clothes, and some white bathrooms were released as he got out of the car as a sign of peace.
