(Trends Wide) — A Fulton County, Georgia judge is releasing parts of the report from a special grand jury that investigated Donald Trump’s actions following the state’s 2020 election, but not specific charging recommendations.
In his order Monday, Judge Robert CI McBurney said the introduction and conclusion of the special grand jury, as well as the concerns the panel had about witnesses lying under oath, will be released Thursday. Some of the information in those sections may still be redacted, the judge noted.
No one has yet been charged in the case, and another grand jury would make those decisions now that the special grand jury has delivered its findings.
Other findings of the special grand jury will not be made public yet, particularly the parts where the report makes recommendations on possible charges. This is because some of the people named in those recommendations may not have appeared before in the grand jury proceedings.
“In this case, however, for any person named in the final report of the special purpose grand jury who did not have the opportunity to appear before the grand jury, none of those procedural rights have been satisfied,” McBurney wrote in the order. eight-page Monday.
“And for those who did appear — voluntarily or not — only the right to be heard was protected (albeit without counsel or rebuttal),” McBurney added.
The special grand jury had indicated that it wanted its full report released, and media organizations, including Trends Wide, have also requested its release.
