Portugal announced today, Saturday, that it has only 7 vacant beds in intensive care units for COVID-19 sufferers on its mainland.
Ministry of Health data showed that of the 850 beds for intensive care units designated for COVID-19 cases on the mainland, 843 beds have been filled, and in the country of 10 million people, there are 420 additional beds in intensive care units for those suffering from other diseases.
As the number of vacant beds decreased on the mainland, authorities airlifted three patients in need of critical care on Friday from Lisbon to the Portuguese island of Madeira, where the health system faced less pressure.
The ministry said that the number of daily injuries reached 12,435, down from the record recorded on Thursday.
The death toll from Covid-19 infection in Portugal has reached 12,179 so far, in addition to 711018 injuries.
