The Spanish Football League announced that the match scheduled for today, Saturday, between Atlético Madrid and its host Athletic Bilbao, has been postponed to a later date, due to a snowstorm in Spain.
Due to the heavy snow as a result of the storm “Philomena”, many roads were closed on Friday, and Madrid’s capital airport was also closed.
The League said that it had taken the decision to postpone the match, which is part of the 18th stage of the Spanish League, “in view of the exceptional situation caused by the storm in large parts of the peninsula … and the confirmed impact of the storm on the stadium.”
The League indicated that it would set a new date for the match at a later time.
Bilbao said on Friday that the plane carrying the team was unable to land in the capital, Madrid, and was forced to return.
There are also doubts about Real Madrid’s match with Osasuna on the latter’s ground, scheduled for Saturday, after the plane carrying the Spanish champion faced difficulties at Barajas International Airport in the capital, Madrid, due to the accumulation of snow on the landing and take-off runways.
