PRD presents complaint to the INE for the campaign of soccer players in favor of the Secretary of the Interior

The PRD representative before the National Electoral Institute (INE), Ángel Ávila, filed a complaint about possible anticipated campaign actions by the Secretary of the Interior, Adam Augusto Lopez Hernandezdue to a video in which professional soccer players and ex-soccer players express their support for the official.

In its letter, the PRD stated that López Hernández benefited from the figure and image of public figures as soccer players, among them Miguel Layun, Giovanni Dos Santos y Braulio Moonwho externate greetings to the head of the Segob.

In the PRD’s opinion, “evidently it has political-electoral purposes to position the public servant for the 2023-2024 federal electoral process, generating acts that violate electoral principles and law.”

The complaint mentioned that the terminology used by the soccer players such as “I am very comfortable (sic)”, coincides with the graffiti on fences that have been seen in various states of the country.

“This authority must take into account that the messages were issued on the same date, in the same manner and place, and cannot be considered as a mere manifestation of opinions protected by the freedom of expression before the elements that allow us to conclude that it is a structured campaign”, he mentioned.

The appeal stated that although López Hernández He published a letter on his social networks in which he asked people not to spread content in his favor, “the truth is that he did not do it directly with respect to the denounced video; especially that the defendant does not distance himself from the conduct of the Mexican soccer players and former soccer players.”

He argued that said campaign of soccer players is contrary to article 134 of the Constitution, which establishes that the public servants of the Federation, states and municipalities have the obligation to impartially apply the public resources that are under their responsibility, without influencing the fairness of competition between political parties.

Ángel Ávila, representative of the PRD, explained that the Complaints and Complaints Commission of the INE must investigate whether the soccer players were hired so that they make allusions to the Secretary of the Interior, and if so, know where the possible financing for these comes from activities. In addition to investigating whether public resources have been used for this campaign.

“Promotion of the secretary Adán Augusto. We once again demand that the authority be able to establish exemplary sanctions so that the presidential caps do not continue trampling on the law and the Constitution with impunity ”, he highlighted.
