PRI reiterates that it will not negotiate the electoral reform; offers to support the march in defense of the INE with votes

The national leader of ATAlejandro Moreno Cárdenas, reiterated that his benches in Congress will not support the electoral reform initiative that they propose Morena and President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, and promised to support the citizen demonstration in defense of the INE that took place on Sunday with their votes against.

“We are never going to support any reform that threatens the National Electoral Institute and the Electoral Tribunal, that is how we have been supporting it, that is how the Institutional Revolutionary Party will be, for this reason we will never support a reform that affects its independence, impartiality and that it belongs to all of us.

“What the citizens went out to say to the streets yesterday, the PRI members are going to defend it, we are going to support it as we have been doing firmly and forcefully. The AT He is an ally of democracy,” said the PRI member.

At a press conference at the national headquarters of the AT, Moreno Cárdenas said that President López Obrador did not like the citizen’s march on Sunday in defense of the INE, and for this reason he disqualified those who participated. “Citizen participation is the best antidote to combat any authoritarian attempt,” he said.

The federal deputy also said that the presence of the AT in the plural group of the Chamber of Deputies It is not to negotiate the electoral reform of the Government, but to listen where there are coincidences with the rest of the political forces.

“Participation in the plural group, where all the parties are analyzing and building the issues of the more than 100 constitutional and legal initiatives, what we have made clear is the PRI vote against anything that weakens the INE, nothing that weakens the Federal Electoral Tribunal. What is being done in this working group, where all the parties are, is that if proposals are made it will be with the consensus of all, but on the structural issue of the INE and the Tribunalno reform, vote against our legislators”, he asserted.

Questioned about the possibility that Morena seeks to approve a legal and non-constitutional reform in electoral matters, the PRI leader maintained that in that case the Government would not need the votes of the opposition; “They will be able to make decisions on that,” he said.

Although he denied that his party is going to present an initiative on the matter, he stressed that by AT He is interested in a reform that contains the officials who currently commit anticipated pre-campaign acts, and that there is a sanction against them for the use of public resources.

In contrast, he affirmed that the Government’s intention to reduce financing to the parties is with the objective of the opposition not being able to compete with the social programs.
