New York, USA (CNN) – Spotify on Tuesday announced an exclusive partnership with Archwell Audio, a new audio production company founded by Prince Harry and his wife, Megan Markle.
The deal allows the Duke and Duchess of Sussex to expand their broadcast and digital footprint. This is their latest investment since they announced in January that they would step back from their role as senior members of the British royal family and become “financially independent”. In September, Harry and Meghan signed a multi-year production deal with Netflix. Megan also narrated the documentary “Elephants” on “Disney Plus”.
For Spotify, the music-streaming app that is also building a podcast empire with major acquisitions and exclusive content from big names, the deal reinforces its reputation as a destination for prestigious audio content.
Kim Kardashian West signed an exclusive deal with Spotify in June. Michelle Obama also launched “The Michelle Obama Podcast” for the first time on “Spotify” in July.
The partnership provides exclusive content from two prominent celebrities to serve and grow Spotify’s global audience of 320 million monthly active users. The company said in a press release on Tuesday that the duo “will host and produce a collection of community building podcasts through shared experience, narration and values.”
Archwell Audio’s multi-year partnership with Spotify also includes many programs, some hosted by the Duke and Duchess, and others produced by the duo.
A special holiday edition hosted by the Duke and Duchess will be released later this month. Their first program will start next year, while all projects will be available exclusively on Spotify.
