Over the years, Facebook's privacy settings have become more complex as the app has evolved, but the app offers a “Privacy Checkup” feature that lets you easily navigate all of Facebook's complex security and privacy features in one place, while providing some useful information to help you make the right decisions about your data.
It is recommended that you perform a privacy check on your Facebook account every 6 months to a year to ensure that your account is secure.
How do you use Privacy Checkup?
You can take advantage of the Privacy Checkup feature by:
- Open the Facebook app on your smartphone.
- Click on your profile picture.
- Press the Settings button.
- Click on Privacy Checkup.
You will see a page with 5 options, each option determines a set of steps for the privacy and security of your account.
Tap Who Can See What You Share to adjust your profile information, who can see your posts, who your general audience is, who can tag you in posts, and who else you've blocked.
Click How to Keep Your Account Secure to turn on alerts about new sign-ins to your account, check your password security, or enable two-factor authentication when you sign in to your account.
Click How People Can Find You on Facebook to control who can send you friend requests, the phone number or email associated with your account, or how you appear in search engines like Google.
Tap Your Data Settings on Facebook to control which apps connected to your Facebook account or third-party sites share your Facebook account data with.
Click “Your Ad Preferences on Facebook” to select how Facebook collects data to show you ads based on your profile information and your personal interactions within the app.
You will be able to follow each selection step by step to adjust the settings to suit you.
