Proctor Shines With 35 Points in Cavs’ Summer League Defeat

The Cleveland Cavaliers’ Summer League campaign ended with a 94-86 loss to the Sacramento Kings, a defeat that officially eliminates them from tournament play.

Despite the outcome, second-round pick Tyrese Proctor delivered a standout performance. With Craig Porter Jr., Jaylon Tyson, and Sailiou Niang out of the lineup, Proctor stepped up to lead the offense, scoring 35 points on 11-for-24 shooting.

Forced to be the primary offensive option, the rookie grew more comfortable throughout the game. He effectively utilized his midrange shot, a key skill for his potential success in the NBA. While taking 24 shots, Proctor also distributed the ball well, finishing with four assists, three rebounds, two steals, and two turnovers.

Nae’Qwan Tomlin also put together a solid performance, recording 18 points and 12 rebounds, with an impressive 10 coming on the offensive glass. He also added three assists, two blocks, and a steal. Tristan Enaruna and Norchad Omier were the only other Cavaliers to score in double digits, each finishing with 11 points.

The shorthanded Cavaliers remained competitive primarily through their effort on the boards. They outrebounded Sacramento on the offensive end 23-10, leading to a 24-10 advantage in second-chance points and enabling them to take 23 more shots from the field.

However, the possession advantage wasn’t enough to overcome the undefeated Kings. Nique Clifford led Sacramento with 19 points and nine assists, while Isaac Jones contributed 17 points on efficient 8-for-11 shooting.
