The Russian “Gamalia” Center for Microbiology announced that more than two million of the country’s citizens have so far received the “Sputnik V” vaccine against the emerging corona virus.
The Deputy Director of the “Gamalia” Center for Scientific Research, Denis Logonov, said during a round table meeting organized today, Wednesday, under the title “Vaccination against Covid-19 – an effective barrier to the challenges of the pandemic”, that about 2.2 million people have received the first dose of “Sputnik V” More than 1.7 million of them have received the second dose of the Russian vaccine produced by this center.
Logonov noted that nearly seven million doses of the Russian vaccine were produced and put up for civilian circulation, stressing that this number will reach the threshold of 10 million doses next month.
The official said that it is expected that the main part of Russia’s citizens (i.e., 70%, which is the limit required to end the outbreak of the epidemic) will be vaccinated against Corona before the middle of next summer, according to the optimistic scenario, while the vaccination campaign will end according to the pessimistic expectations before autumn arrives.
The well-respected medical journal “The Lancet” recently published results of clinical tests confirming the high effectiveness of “Sputnik V”.
According to the data of the Russian vaccine producers, which is vaccinated with two doses, its effectiveness reaches 91.4% with 100% protection against the risk of serious cases of infection.
