Professionalization and training, axes to follow in the tourism industry of Querétaro

For the government of Querétaro, professionalization, training and constant evolution are the main lessons that the Covid-19 pandemic left for the tourism industry, since it was one of the sectors hardest hit by the health crisis that began three years ago.

I have a very special appreciation for the tourism sector because it was a sector that was hit hard and had extraordinary resilience. It is learning every day, finding ourselves, recognizing ourselves. The mission that we all have in Querétaro today, the operators, the services, is that we recognize the feelings and the need of the tourist to be able to listen to their needs,” said Adriana Vega Vázquez Mellado, head of the Ministry of Tourism, in an interview with El Economista. of the state.

Within the framework of the Tianguis Turístico 2023, he noted that although they are items that have already been worked on, they have now become more demanding given the constant evolution that the sector is experiencing.

In addition to professionalization, sustainability and digitization are part of the pillars on which they are focused to be able to execute them correctly, “to do them with total respect for the sensitivity and emotions of those who visit us today.”

The official added that the local government has strengthened the security and certainty of those who invest in Querétaro, since businessmen seek to innovate with new products such as La Ruta Arte, Queso y Vino, which has more than 30 wineries “and I think that is the secret, that we have different experiences, but that they are continually renewing themselves because they have managed to find this combination between investing and investing in a different matter that is touristically speaking”.

Recovery

In terms of economic recovery, Vázquez Mellado declared that they are 3% away from reaching pre-pandemic levels, since they closed last year with 10,000 million pesos of economic income, a visit of 2 million tourists and an occupation of 55 percent.

At the end of 2023, they foresee 2.2 million tourists and 12,000 million pesos of economic income, figures that could be reached during the first semester.

Tourist Market

The secretary explained that the 47th edition of the Tianguis Turístico, in particular, was very important for the sector due to its proximity to Mexico City and the opportunity it represents to bring the products that the state has, such as the wine routes, The Initiatory Camino de Santiago in Querétaro, to mention a few.

Presenting these products, he said, has given the opportunity at the same time to be able to regionalize and close agreements with other destinations such as Guanajuato and Guerrero.

“I think being able to make these alliances is the success we had in the tianguis (…) We announced new flights, new frequencies and something very important for us was having announced the National Museum of Mexican Gastronomy because we believe that this World Heritage Site combines extraordinarily with us that we are a World Heritage Site in Santiago de Querétaro.
