American media reported that one of the founders of the American National Iranian Council (NIAC), Trita Parsi, is a candidate for a seat on the National Security Council under President-elect Joe Biden.
Politico confirmed on Friday that Parsi’s name was on the list handed over to Biden by an alliance of progressive left-wing forces, which includes the names of more than 100 candidates for high-ranking positions concerned with foreign policies in the future administration.
The report indicated that the list includes experts and activists in human rights and anti-war organizations and centers for inter-party studies, in addition to a number of political figures and non-traditional thinkers with experience in government work.
Senior member of the progressive International Politics Center, Yasmin Tayeb, said that about 65% of the candidates are women or not white.
The progressive forces recommended Biden to appoint Parsi, also a former UN official, to the position of Middle East official on the National Security Council.
