Rudy Giuliani will NOT face criminal charges following raid on his New York home and office in probe into his Ukraine dealings, prosecutors say
- Prosecutors have reviewed evidence taken during the raids in April 2021
- Sixteen of his devices, including cell phones and computers, were seized
- Operation was part of an investigation into his dealings with Ukraine in 2020
- New York prosecutors said the grand jury in the case had concluded
- Giuliani’s lawyer, Robert Costello, called the decision a ‘total victory’
- Costello added in a statement that he wish the move had been made sooner
Prosecutors in New York do not plan to bring criminal charges against Rudy Giuliani in connection with a probe into his interactions with Ukrainian figures, they revealed in a letter to a judge Monday.
They said they made the decision after a review of evidence resulting from raids on his residence and law office in April 2021.
Federal prosecutors were investigating whether Giuliani´s dealings with figures in Ukraine in the run-up to the 2020 election required him to register as a foreign agent.
Prosecutors said a grand jury probe that led to the issuance of warrants that resulted in the seizure of Giuliani´s electronic devices had concluded.
They said that based on information currently available, criminal charges would not be forthcoming.
‘In my business, we would call that total victory,’ Giuliani’s lawyer, Robert Costello, told The Associated Press. ‘We appreciate what the US attorney’s has done. We only wish they had done it a lot sooner.’

Giuliani is an attorney and a former personal lawyer for ex-President Donald Trump. His communications with clients are generally protected by law, though there are exceptions.
Giuliani maintained throughout the probe that he had done nothing wrong. At the time of the filing by prosecutors, Giuliani was on a talk show and apparently unaware of the development.
The devices, including cell phones and computers, that were seized from his Upper East Side home on April 28, 2021, belonged to both Giuliani and those who worked for him.
His lawyers had previously argued that the secret search of Giuliani’s cloud data files was an intrusion on private communications he had with then President Trump.
At the time of his alleged conduct, Giuliani was leading a campaign to press Ukraine for an investigation into Joe Biden and his son Hunter before being elected president.
Some Ukrainians who dealt with Giuliani as he campaigned against the Bidens were also looking for his help with matters of their own, including arranging meetings with US officials or pressuring the Trump administration to oust the U.S. ambassador to Ukraine.
Giuliani’s lawyers have argued that the early morning April raids on his home and office were not necessary because he had made clear in 2019 that he would answer any questions without restrictions, except for privileged matters, as long as his lawyers knew what subjects would be discussed.
They said prosecutors instead ‘simply chose to treat a distinguished lawyer as if he was the head of a drug cartel or a terrorist, in order to create maximum prejudicial coverage of both Giuliani, and his most well known client – the former President of the United States’.
