A spokesman for the German sportswear company Puma said – today, Tuesday – that it will end its sponsorship of the Israeli national football team next year, in a decision it took before the “Al-Aqsa Flood” operation launched by the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) on October 7 last year.
“While two national teams have recently signed, which will be announced later this year, the contracts of a number of national federations, such as Israel and Serbia, will expire in 2024,” the spokesman added in an emailed statement.
The spokesman added that the company took this decision in 2022 as part of its new strategy, which is in line with the timelines for designing and developing team shirts.
The Financial Times initially revealed this decision, before it was reported by international agencies and media.
The Palestinian-led boycott calls called for a boycott of the “Puma” company – before the Al-Aqsa Flood operation – because of its sponsorship of the Israeli national team.
The boycott calls increased in strength and extended to include more companies and products following the occupation’s aggression against the Gaza Strip, which entered its 67th day and left more than 18,000 martyrs and tens of thousands wounded and missing.
