The owner of a pub in Manchester has hit back at a grumpy customer after they branded the boozer ‘woke‘ in a one-star review.
Port Street Beer House, based in the trendy Northern Quarter of the city, shared a screengrab of the review on this week on social media – along with their comeback.
The poor review, posted on Google, didn’t offer any further explanation beyond branding the pub ‘woke’ and downgrading both the service and atmosphere to one star.
Taking to their Facebook page, Port Street Beer House, known for its wide selection of craft ales and cask beers, uploaded the screengrab alongside Gloria Gaynor’s hit ‘I Will Survive.’

In the post, the pub quipped: ‘Dead proud to have received this review from what I can only expect is a lovely well-rounded individual.
‘Name changed for humour purposes only. Anyone know where we should tell them to go next time they come in?’
The owner also uploaded a photo of a fictional book to accompany the review, titled: ‘Everything I don’t like is WOKE. A book for basic d********.’
The post quickly gained traction from loyal punters who defended the pub, while further poking fun at the disgruntled customer’s review.
One person suggested: ‘100% you should make this into a beer mat.’
Another wrote: ‘Clearly a woke pub or how do you explain being recommended by the Guardian twelve years ago?’
A third fumed: ‘A woke pub? Whoever comes up with such a description is a Class One T*****t. Utter s***e. I’ve been drinking in the Port Street Beer House since it opened and there’s nothing ‘woke’ about it.’
‘It’s just beardy blokes in a modern pub serving real and craft ales. Woke, my a**e. Pathetic.’

Carnival Brewing Company, based in Liverpool, also commented too, joking: ‘Woke pub, we like being woke too. Be proud of your wokeness.’
Despite the odd negative review, the vast majority of patrons praise Port Street Beer House for its excellent selection of drinks and inviting atmosphere. One recent Google review reads: ‘Great beers at very reasonable prices for the area.
‘The bar snacks are also top-notch. Wide range of beers, lagers, and ales. Plenty of seats both inside and outside. Décor plain but adds to the atmosphere.’
It comes after a pub owner was branded an ‘angry little man’ by a customer who left a scathing review because they had to pay for their drink.
Heath Ball, owner of the Red Lion & Sun pub located in Highgate, was left ‘baffled’ after a customer helped themselves to the venue’s frozen cocktail machine – as if it was free.
