Russian President Vladimir Putin discussed with his Mexican counterpart, Andres Manuel Obrador, who is currently receiving treatment for Corona virus, the issue of supplying the “Sputnik V” vaccine developed in Russia to Mexico.
The Kremlin said, in a statement, that Putin and Obrador made a phone call today, Monday, in which they emphasized “the constructive and mutually beneficial nature of Russian-Mexican relations, which are developing successfully in multiple directions.”
The Kremlin added that during the call, “a detailed discussion of issues related to combating the spread of Coronavirus infection and ensuring epidemiological security” took place, stressing that the two parties discussed “issues of organizing supplies of the Russian vaccine Sputnik V to Mexico, as well as training Mexican medical experts specializing in this field in Russia.”
The statement said that Putin expressed his wishes for a speedy and full recovery to Obrador, while the two sides agreed to continue bilateral contacts.
Mexico had previously confirmed that it was waiting for the first batch of “Sputnik V”, the first recorded vaccine in the world against the Corona virus, to arrive in the country within a week, indicating that the shipment would include 400 thousand doses of the vaccine.
However, the Mexican authorities, which launched the vaccination campaign against the disease on January 13 and are currently adopting the vaccine developed by the American “Pfizer” and the German “Biontech”, have not yet issued official approval for the emergency use of the Russian vaccine.
