Afghan Foreign Minister Muhammad Hanif Atmar said that he delivered to his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov a letter from Afghan President Ashraf Ghani to Russian President Vladimir Putin.
During the meeting with Lavrov today, Atmar added: “The President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, Ashraf Ghani, personally wanted to express his gratitude for the assistance that the Russian side has provided to Afghanistan and the Afghan people over the past twenty years. Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that Afghanistan is a friendly country and a partner country that desires friendship with the state and people in Russia.
The Afghan minister thanked Russia for its support to his country during the epidemic period. He referred to the personal contribution of the Special Representative of the Russian President to Afghanistan, Zamir Kabulov, in this support.
Atmar pointed out that Moscow and Kabul have common interests, including combating international terrorism, extremism and drug trafficking. “And here, of course, we can fight these threats jointly,” he said.
