Saudi television said that Qatari cars crossed the border and entered the Kingdom through a land port today, Saturday, for the first time since Arab countries cut diplomatic relations with Doha in mid-2017.
The driver of a second car passing through the “Abu Samra-Salwa” crossing told Al-Ikhbariya: “The crisis, praise be to God, has resolved. The kind reception, warm hospitality and joy that we see from our brothers our brothers, God be praise to you.”
On Tuesday, he announced in Saudi Arabia an agreement backed by the United States to end a bitter conflict with Qatar under which it, the UAE, Bahrain and Egypt imposed a boycott on Doha, accusing it of supporting terrorism, and Qatar has repeatedly denied this.
So far, no flights have resumed between Qatar and the four countries, and Qatar Airways began, on Thursday, re-routing some of its flights to pass through Saudi airspace.
A spokesman for “Etihad Airways”, the official airline of the emirate of Abu Dhabi, said the company plans to resume its services between Abu Dhabi and Doha.
Measures to contain the outbreak of the Coronavirus are still in place on both sides of the land border between Qatar and Saudi Arabia.
