Querétaro is positioned as the fourth producer of chicken in the country

Queretaro, Qro. The production of bird meat amounted to 276,781 tons from January to September 2022, placing the state as the fourth largest producer in the country, contributing 9.9% of national production, according to the Agrifood and Fisheries Information Service (READY).

This tonnage represents an increase of only 1.5% (4,185 more tons) in relation to the accumulated of January-September 2021, when it produced 272,596 tons, a variation that was below the national average of 3.4 percent.

With the volume of production accumulated in the first nine months of the year, the entity is only below Veracruz which produced 362,512 tons (contributes with 13% of the national volume); in second place Jalisco with 311,440 tons (contributes 11.2%); and in third Aguascalientes with 309,989 tons (11.1% contribution).

being Queretaro one of the main chicken producers At the national level, an animal safety system was established in order to prevent outbreaks of avian influenza, explained the president of the Regional Livestock Union of Querétaro (UGRQ), Alejandro Ugalde Tinoco.

In this sense, he noted, there is coordination between the State Committee for the Promotion and Protection of Livestock of Querétaro and the National Service for Health, Safety and Agrifood Quality (Senasica).

For now, in Queretaro There are no reports of positive cases of avian influenza, so they established health surveillance points as a biosecurity measure, he explained.

“We are working very closely with Senasica. In Querétaro we have not had cases, none. The moment we have a case, the state is going to be quarantined, so now the good thing is that these determinations are being made at Senasica, ”he specified.

Alejandro Ugalde said that in the states where the disease is detected, a quarantine is applied throughout the territory, in order to avoid risks of spread.

“Of course in Queretaro We are concerned, the Committee for the Promotion and Protection of Livestock is being shielded, there are four or five verification points that we have and the movement of animals is already being prevented and of course all products, mainly chicken manure that is used for consumption cattle or fattening”, he explained.

The senasica confirmed that birds affected by avian influenza (IAAP AH5N1) have been found in seven parts of the country.

According to the federal agency, the technicians of the General Directorate of Animal Health (DGSA) established the quarantine corresponding to the affected commercial farms, in addition to applying the sanitary measures, proceeding to the depopulation, cleaning and disinfection of the poultry production units. ; to then start with the period of sanitary vacuum and immediately the introduction of sentinel birds, to verify the absence of the virus before restarting production.
