Querétaro maintains the lowest level in its dams

Queretaro, Qro. the seven main dams of the entity are at 21.1% of their filling capacity, the lowest level reported in the country, according to records from the National Water Commission (Conagua), as of October 25, 2022.

In Queretarothe La Venta dam, in Pedro Escobedo, is at 0% filling, it is the only dam in Mexico –among the 210 main ones– that is empty.

The La Llave dam continues, in San Juan del Río, which is 15% full; the Constitución dam of 1917, also in San Juan del Río, at 15.2%; the San Ildefonso dam, in Amealco de Bonfil, at 17.4%; the El Batán dam, in Corregidora, at 19.7%; the El Centenario dam, in Tequisquiapan, at 26.9%; and the Jalpan dam, in Jalpan de Serra, has the highest level of storage, it is at 98.5 percent.

After Querétaro, Baja California registers the second lowest level of storage, of 24.7%, as of October 25; Tamaulipas follows with an average filling of 38.1% in its main reservoirs.

With a level above 40% filling, followed by Aguascalientes with 40.7%, Coahuila with 41.6%, Morelos with 51.6%, San Luis Potosí with 51.95, State of Mexico with 54.3%, Nuevo León with 57.9%, Hidalgo with 65.4%, Michoacán with 66.7%, Puebla with 67%, Chiapas with 67.2%, Guanajuato with 68.7 percent.

The rest of the entities register levels above the national average, which is 69.6% of storage among the 210 main dams in the country, which are located in 26 states.

Therefore, above this indicator is Jalisco with 70.3% filling; Nayarit follows with 72.8%, Sonora with 73.6%, Sinaloa with 74.1%, Tlaxcala with 76.3%, Zacatecas with 77.9%, Oaxaca with 82%, Chihuahua with 84.2%, Durango with 85.8%, Veracruz with 88.5%, Guerrero with 94.6%. and, with the largest storage, Colima with 100.2 percent.

Also, Queretaro it also tops the list as the state that, in the past year, saw the steepest drop in storage of its top dams.

The seven main water bodies in the state went from an average filling of 91% that they had on October 25, 2021 to 21.1% that they registered on the same date in 2022, indicating a decrease of 69.9 percentage points.

This list continues with Guanajuato (down -42.1 percentage points in one year), Hidalgo (-31.7 points), San Luis Potosí (-30.7 points), Puebla (-28.7 points), Michoacán (-23.8 points), Zacatecas (-20.4 points), Aguascalientes (-19.3 points), Nayarit (-18.5 points), State of Mexico (-14.6 points), Tlaxcala (-13.7 points), Tamaulipas (-12.1 points), Veracruz (-9 points), Jalisco (- 7.9 points), Chiapas (-4.5 points), Morelos (-3.9 points), Baja California (-1.8 points).

And the remaining nine entities report an increase in the filling of their reservoirs, in the last year: Colima (increased 0.2 percentage points), Guerrero (3.1 points), Nuevo León (10.1 points), Oaxaca (11.6 points), Sinaloa (19 points), Durango (23.2 points), Sonora (23.7 points), Coahuila (25.5 points), Chihuahua (42.9 points). And at the national level, the change was just 0.6 percentage points, due to the fact that the 210 main dams in the country advanced from 69.1 to 69.6% filling, between both reference dates.
