Querétaro plans to close the year with 16,000 million dollars in exports: Sedesu

Queretaro, Qro. To maintain the rate of growth reported by the exports of the state, could conclude 2022 with a value close to 16,000 million dollars, an annual increase of 9.9% in relation to 2021 when they amounted to 14,560.3 million dollars, which would indicate a record in the annual value of this indicator, according to projections of the Secretariat of Sustainable Development (Sedesu) local.

For the first half of 2022, the value of the Queretaro exports amounted to 8,083.7 million dollars, an annual increase of 16.5%, said the head of SedesuMarco Antonio del Prete Tercero.

The behavior of the export sector, he deepened, is relevant in the process of economic recovery, after the effects of the health contingency by Covid-19; the value of merchandise that has been mobilized from the state shows an evident recovery.

“Exports have been an important figure in terms of economic recovery (…) in the first half of 2022 we have already exported 8,000 million dollars which, if this rate of growth is maintained, (could) double (…) This allows us to observe that there is a clear recovery, at least in the foreign trade sector”, said the local official.

The manufacture of transportation equipment remains the main component of the Queretaro exportsdue to the state’s auto parts vocation and Mexico’s participation in the North American automotive industry.

However, the products derived from the manufacture of electrical and electronic equipment stand out, as one of the fastest growing in the first half of the year.

“So this is also an important point of growth for the state’s economy, which is a clear reflection that there are industrial sectors that are already beginning to grow very punctually,” said Marco Antonio del Prete Tercero.

The state secretary recalled that in 2021 Querétaro exceeded the value of exports in 2019 (12,868.7 million dollars) by 13%, which had been placed as the best year prior to the pandemic.

“2021 was the year in which the most was exported in the recent history of the state, now in 2022 if this growth rate is maintained we will still exceed what was exported in 2021 and what has been exported in 2019 than It was the last normal pre-pandemic year,” he said.

The main exporters are the large Foreign Direct Investment companies; however, he stressed that one of the state’s objectives is to encourage the participation of micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) in the foreign market.

“The main products (exported) were parts for motor vehicle accessories, refrigerators and freezers, machines and devices for cleaning and draining (washing machines), and devices for filtering liquids or gases. However, the ones that grew the most were the manufacture of electrical appliances and electrical power generation equipment”, he specified.

For 81.3% of exports in the January-June period of this year, the destination was the United States, for 3.4% Canada, for 2.3% the United Kingdom, for 2% Germany, Colombia and Panama contributed 1.6%, among other destinations.
